Conflicting info: Docs 12651/12661

+1 vote
I sold quite a few NIST1 based on the compatibility shown in document 12661 and according to that document, the RF kit/remote start is optional - so we sold them as 'stand alones'.

We had several problems with customers whose EVOs did not pick up 3x lock and later saw document 12651 which has the same exact list of compatible vehicles. but says that the remote start IS needed.

Which document is correct?

I have a customer with a 2009 FX50.  It is listed on both installation documents.  12651 says he needs the NIST1 AND a remote start.....12551 says he only needs the NIST1.

Please clarify

Off the top of my head, the only vehicles you will see that 3x lock will not work is the 2007-2008 Altima, G35 and G37 and another one i think (but it would be 2007-2008)

It's normal that from the guides you listed you see one that requires a remote starter while the other has RF-KIT or 3x Lock start. Why? because one guide is for a stand alone remote starter installation while the other guide is regular installation with remote starter unit. Key words/phrase here is Stand Alone Remote Starter, which on the first page of guide 12661, it says stand alone remote starter.

Best place to know when a vehicle is compatible with 3x Lock Start, is on fortin.ca after doing a vehicle search. It will say right there if 3x Lock start would work. http://fortin.ca/en/vehicles/infiniti/fx50/2009-push-to-start/

If you want. Here are two nice links to look at.

I understand that, but let's take the 2008 Altima as an example.   If I look it up using the vehicle search, it brings me to document 12651.

12651 says the vehicle needs a remote starter along with the NIST1.

However.....document 12661 - the 3x lock install document for the NIST1 - lists the 2008 Altima as being compatible.

Your document that lists all the 3x vehicles starts the Altima at 2009.....so I guess the bottom line is that the 2008 altima should probably be removed from 12661, on account of 12661 showing the 2008 as being compatible with 3x lock.

correct, the 2007-2008 Altima (and G37 2008) should not be in guide 12661 so that it does not arouse confusion since guides are not updated at the same as the website information.

The thing is though. The EVO will work as a stand alone remote starter in those vehicles. 3xLock start does not work though since the OEM commands for lock-unlock are not on the CAN-BUS. Basically, a Stand Alone Remote Starter installation with an RF-KIT works fine.

Vehicle is not listed on the website for 3x Lock Start and there is no feature / icon available at the moment that would say Stand Alone Remote Starter works, but not for 3x Lock. There's a few other vehicles we don't list as 3xLock compatible even though the unit would work as a stand alone starter with an RF-KIT.  (see Ford Focus 2012+, Ford Escape 2013+)

I'll ask to change guides and maybe look into having guides like the the Escape and Focus I linked above.

I Have a 2007 altima and i too was confused about what will work with my vehicle. So i understand now that i need an rf kit. but which evo kit is best. evo-nist1, evo-all or evo-one? they are all listed available for my car but only the evo-one has remote start checked as an option at the bottom. Yet it seems people have used the evo-all and evo-nist1.

Also from other research it seems that i have to take the circuit board from my oem fob for the evo install and i only have one fob. so a second question is will the crimestopper revo4 fobs still give me the keyless entry and other functions of the oem fob, Or will i need to find and purchase a second oem fob?

Any information is greatly appreciated!

EVO-NIST1 or EVO-ALL programmed as a stand alone remote starter but using with a an RF-KIT to control it. The EVO-NIST1 is an EVO-ALL with a compatible vehicle T-harness that helps reduce the amount of physical connections required. Even with the EVO-ONE you would still need an RF-KIT.

You are not losing any factory fobs. That's only on the 2014-2015 Nissan Rogue.

Ok great that clears up things alot! Based off the chart i thought i was getting all of the other features instead of remote start. Especially when the 09 model and up shows the 3x lock feature but the 07 and 08 didnt. Then I  watched several videos on nissan Installations with the evo-all working fine but wondering why they werent using the evo-nist1. And yes most of those were with the rogue so i assumed it was the same set up for all nissans 07 and up. Thanks for setting that straight!

No problem.

The 3x lock start features requires two separate features:

  1. OEM Remote monitoring
  2. the unit has to be able to work as a stand alone remote starter (modules starts the vehicle all by itself without the need of a separate remote starter unit)

unfortunately for the 2007-2008 Altima, G35, G37 and a few others, OEM Remote Monitoring cannot work. The unit though, EVO-NIST1 or EVO-ALL, can still be used as a stand alone remote starter but requires an RF-KIT so that you could actually control it.
