Remote start not working

0 votes
Here is all info on what products I have, with links to the pdf's of the manuals showing what I have wired up.. All with a full explanation of what is not working, and what it does while trying to start....

Vehicle: 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4

Fortin Evo-all with the T-harness ( just purchased the flash link updater )

Crime Stopper SP-502 with the data ports ( Evo is default ).

I updated the evo-all via the flash link device to the newest firmware, and the newest update for my evo-all.  I did not change any options on the evo-all except for the priority driver door unlock, and then I made sure that the evo-all knew to use the data port for evo series....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I followed the instructions that came with the fortin evo-all first... using install directions "A"

see here: ( http://fortin.ca/download/28831/evo-all_evochrt5_p20160902.pdf )

I then went to the crimestopper book and followed the install diagram in their book

see here : ( http://www.crimestopper.com/cstech/library/security/security_systems/security_keyless_entry/sp-402_sp-502_ins_rev_09-28-2012_green%20kill.pdf ) its near the end shows the module and all the wiring.

All options work as expected, except for the siren ( crime stopper side ) and the remote start, which I am not sure is the crime stopper or the fortin....

THe error I am getting when I try to remote start my vehicle is that the ignition is on prior to the remote start... ( this is from the flashes I get from my crime stopper ) I notice when I am in the car, the yellow light on the fortin is on and I believe the red light.  ( I can take a video if need be ).

I would love to praise the ease of install from the evo-all product and the wirecolor site, but at this point I am highly frustrated.

It seems that there might possibly be a conflict between the two boxes, and something is keeping the car from cranking....

Please someone help. I want to put my dash back together.

If the yellow LED in always ON, the EVO is definitly seeing ignition ON. The yellow LED should only be ON when ignition is ON.

The connection of the yellow wire is probably wrong. Verify this connection

The yellow is only one when I am driving, when I put the key in and turn the ignition on, and when I try to remote start with the crime stopper sp-502 system the yellow light on the evo will turn on before the crime stopper tries to start.... it is not on all the time. as if it never shuts off..

Per Roberts instructions, get your EVO to start the car (with foot on clutch) first using your factory key fob.  Once you've done that, power up your SP-502 in AUTOMATIC MODE and test it again.  If it starts with the SP-502, then program your TACH and connect your EBRAKE on the SP502.  Program it to MANUAL TRANSMISSION mode and test again.  Following these steps will make troubleshooting easier.  Don't forget to wire in your clutch bypass.

Contact Fortin if you are having issues with making the EVO work.  Contact Crimestopper if you get past the EVO and are having trouble making the 502 work

You really only need to follow the EVO-ALL guide (connection A) for basic remote start connections to a datalink compatible remote starter.

There may be having a conflict in datalink. please try the following.

  1. Enable options C1 and D1 in the EVO-ALL.
  2. Disconnect the GWR (pin A8 - dark blue wire)
  3. Press the lock button on your oem remote three times. (the blue led will flash once per lock press)
  4. The big question, did the vehicle remote start after doing that?

I will try this as soon as I get home and update this thread on what happens...

I want to make sure that Im clear, the yellow LED on the fortin only comes on when the key is turned on or started...

When I try to remote start via the Crimestopper unit ( SP-502 ) the red light on the Fortin comes on, the yellow light on the fortin comes on, and when it would seem that the crime stopper would typically 'crank' or 'start' the car, the blue light flashes...  but nothing is happening.

On the fortin device... also so it is clear... on the install manual for it, I used "A"... I was told that the only connections that I needed to make on that device were the wires in black...

the yellow from the t-harness to the yellow on the 20 pin plug which both of those connect to the ignition wire from my remote start system ( crime stopper ) and then the green/red to the purple from the t-harness....

The YELLOW led will turn OnOFF with ignition. This is both on remote start and when starting the vehicle normally.

This is where that test mentionned earlier will help. if we can't get the evo starting the vehicle in stand alone mode, you will never get it to start with the crimestopper. This brings up a question though, is the vehicle automatic or manual transmission? It could just be that the clutch bypass isnt done yet. This connection is not indicated the EVO-CHRT guide. Also, please test the actual start ouptut of the remote starter even though it is not connected anywhere, there should be 12V when it is "cranking".

Correct. The only exception is on manual transmission vehicles. The clutch bypass is not indicated in the EVO guide since it is not controlled by the EVO.

That's all that is required yes.

Make sure the Crimestopper has power and ground though. I would suggest feeding it it's own power and ground. The installation guide relies on the fact the remote starter can power itself through the datalink port which may not happening right now. Always good to just supply it its own power and ground.

Here's another simple test.

Instead of using the EVO-series datalink protocol, use the other one (ADS) in the crimestopper and set the EVO to option F2 - AP/OFA datalink
My vehicle is a manual transmission... That is partly why I went with the crimestopper unit to pair with the fortin evo-all as a bypass...

I ran all wires per the crime stopper (sp-502) manual, I should have attached the pdf link in my origional post if you need any reference as to what they say to wire....

So on the crime stopper unit, I did run the power and ground... however, the power wires I ran to the 12V + directly on the ignition switch wires, not the data cable.
Manual transmission vehicles require a clutch bypass, that is controlled by the remote starter.

Forget about the test of trying out with c1 and d1 i can guarantee it will not work.

The clutch bypass signal is a negative trigger, the clutch wire is typically YELLOW/RED and found at the clutch switch. Your remote starter should have a negative START signal for your to connect there.
Does it matter if I have sat in the vehicle and held the clutch down while it tries to remote start and that does not allow it to remote start....

I will wire up the neg. starter wire to the clutch switch as you suggested, but  I wanted to make sure that I told you the other first regarding the attempt to remote start while holding down the clutch pedal.
Ya, you should be able to start it by physically pressing the clutch down as long as the Crimestoppers first allowed you to do the reservation mode (or ready mode) previously. Even with the test of enabling C1 and D1, if you manually press the clutch, the car should remote start (so maybe it's a good test to do since the evo is what start this vehicle).
